People who have teeth that are not particularly straight can now choose from a range of different types of braces treatment. Years ago, when there were no other options but metal braces, and kids were often taunted by their peers for wearing them. When Invisalign invisible braces came out, it seemed that this problem was remedied and wearing braces suddenly became cool. For all intents and purposes (people thought), they could achieve the same results as they were able with metal braces and not have to deal with the unsightly appearance of them. There are, however, some very distinct differences and limitations to what Invisalign invisible braces can actually accomplish. This article will take a comparative glance at invisible braces, metal braces and lingual braces.
Invisalign Pros

  • Aesthetically appealing, as they cannot be seen
  • You know exactly how long the product will take to straighten your teeth, thanks to the markings on the device that indicates this
  • The ability to remove them when you get ready
  • a computer simulation is sent to you that shows you what your teeth will look like when you are finished with the treatment

Invisalign Cons

  • They take longer than traditional braces
  • More costly than metal braces
  • 6 week delay between impressions and the actual time that you receive the product
  • Each time you receive new aligner you will experience tooth pain from re-adjustment

Lingual braces are braces that are actually placed behind the teeth. They still give you the ability to straighten your teeth, conceal the braces and maintain the level of reliability that you get with metal braces. Invisalign braces cannot control certain dental situations such as back tooth bite; in fact, they can actually contribute to this affliction while metal braces are fully capable. Secondly, while invisible braces can handle rotate angular teeth. Metal braces, on the other hand, can predictably rotate any tooth. Invisalign itself is aware of these shortcomings and has tried to address it by adding “buttons” to the package of those who need either root up- righting, rotation of cylindrical teeth, or minor adjustments to their bite, but these “buttons” are not effective in terms of predictable results. Metal braces can overcome all of these issues and still remain unseen. If you would like more information on all the different kinds of braces available visit http://www.braces.org.uk/
